about
30th Sept 2021
2 years ago on this day, my friend and old work colleague ended his life in the most tragic way. He lived his life unapologetically, and fully, maybe fuller than a lot of people do. His faith was outspoken and bold, he was as I once told him, the John to my Timothy.
At the time I wrote this song as a raw reaction and shared it as a rough acoustic version. Today I’m releasing the fully produced song, now looking back and celebrating a vivid life and person.
Grief doesn’t dim and our memories don’t fade, but it is often obscured by the rest of our lives. As I put it in the song “in the daytime there’s still shining stars” and time does indeed give a ‘gift’ of tears however we choose to receive them or allow them to flow.
lyrics
---
Some people's lives, light up the night
Dazzling love, shines in their eyes
Burning gold, nothing compares
We’re been the lucky ones, just standing near
Sometimes clouds, bring storm and dark
Forget that hell, can’t win this fight
We strain our eyes, and look too far
Cos in the daytime, there’s still shining stars
Chorus
Time has a gift of tears
Sometimes minutes, sometimes years
We spend our days, and hope it lasts
Waste it wisely, cos it’s soon past
The unborn babe, the tired man
Accepted in, to God’s great plan
And we’ve been told, to call His name
Believe in Him, and what He’s arranged
Chorus
Time has a gift of tears
Sometimes minutes, sometimes years
We spend our days, and hope it lasts
Waste it wisely, cos it’s soon past
Time has a gift of tears
Sometimes minutes, sometimes years
We spend our days, and hope it lasts
Waste it wisely, cos it’s soon past
Waste it wisely, cos it’s soon past
